On January 21, the Johan Skytte Foundation board has taken a unanimous decision to remodel the format of the Skytte Prize conferment ceremony. The ceremony will from now on become a biannual event.

This means that the Johan Skytte Prize will be formally conferred onto two Prize laureates every other year. The Johan Skytte Prize will continue to be awarded on an annual basis. The annual publication of the Johan Skytte Lectures in Perspectives on Politics will not be affected.

This decision will allow us to cut the environmental footprint of the prize award ceremonies and banquets while also making them grander and more inclusive. The next Skytte Prize conferment ceremony will be held in October 2024. This event will also mark the 30th anniversary of the prize

The Johan Skytte chair in Political Science and Eloquence is highly likely the world’s oldest active professorship in political science. The original donation made in 1622 continues to finance research and the Johan Skytte Prize. The prize money of SEK 500,000 is awarded every year by the Johan Skytte Foundation in Uppsala to those who made most valuable contributions to political science.
